Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry. We are looking for a passionate and committed teacher-scholar that can easily move between introductory and upper-division chemistry courses. Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load focused on a variety of courses that include General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Quantitative Analysis, and Forensic Science, among others within the applicant’s area of expertise. Assistant Professor of Biology 
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology. Visiting Scholar in Religious Studies
The Charles K. and Esther C. Krieger Visiting Scholars Program at Defiance College invites applications for a Visiting Scholar in Religious Studies for Fall 2023 through Spring 2025. The Visiting Scholar will teach three courses per semester (9 credit hours) in religious studies, including courses in the scholar’s area of interest, and the first-year seminar World Issues. The Visiting Scholar will coordinate programming on interfaith dialogue, understanding, and justice, and engage in research benefiting students and society. The Visiting Scholar will submit an annual report of activities to the Krieger foundation. The position duties also include academic advising; assisting with program leadership and curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

The position provides an annual stipend of $44,000, housing (3 bedroom) and board, plus eligibility for health benefits. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Religion or Religious Studies or other relevant field with specialization in one of the Abrahamic traditions of Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. An advanced ABD candidate will also be considered.

Assistant Professor of Digital Media
Defiance College invites applications for a full time, tenure track position in the Department of Communication Studies specializing in digital media production in the following areas: video production, social media, media writing, and video editing. Experience with commercial production or podcasting is welcome. This program is intended to teach students to use technology to communicate through various media.

Preferred candidates will have a terminal degree or advanced ABD status in media and communication or a related field. Candidates with a master’s degree will be considered only with significant professional experience in digital media production. Assistant Professor of Physics 
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Physics. Applicants must have a Doctorate in Physics or a related field; advanced ABD will be considered. Applicants with experience teaching college physics are desirable. The successful candidate must be a committed educator with previous teaching experience in higher education with evidence of effectiveness in teaching; the desire to develop an undergraduate research program; and the ability to be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. Experience and commitment to excellence in mentoring undergraduates in engineering programs will be valued. Familiarity with new technology and a willingness to incorporate technology into the classroom and laboratory are strongly desired. Computer Science Faculty
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty member who is interested in an exciting opportunity to help maintain the Computer Science program and work closely with the Cyber-Forensic and Computer Science programs. Responsibilities for this position include a 12-credit per semester teaching load; academic advising; committee work; assisting with program leadership and curriculum development, and service to the college and the wider community. Courses taught can include those within the area of Computer Science, Cyber Security and/or Cyber Forensics.  The selected candidate will be teamed with experienced Cyber-Forensic, Computer Science, and Cybersecurity faculty and the position will involve significant teamwork and collaboration with faculty in the partner programs. Successful candidates should be versatile, adaptable and prepared to learn while teaching.

Assistant Professor of Sport Management
Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track professor of Sport Management. Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load of undergraduate courses on campus and potentially graduate courses on-line. Areas of expertise sought to help students learn include: Sport Sociology, Event & Facility Management in Sport, Sport Leadership, Sport Fundraising, and other areas to help propel students successfully into the sport industry. Sport Management is among the largest majors on campus and students leave Defiance College with experiential knowledge that readies them for the sport industry. Assistant Professor of Teacher Education
Defiance College’s Teacher Education Program is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Special Education at the rank of Assistant Professor. At Defiance College, faculty members will engage in a private, liberal arts environment with an emphasis on teaching, advising, and service. Responsibilities include a teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester.  Within the Teacher Education Program, additional responsibilities include supervision of candidates in practicum and student teaching experiences and supporting the growth of teacher education programming. The position duties also include academic advising; assisting with program leadership and curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

Assistant Professor of Exercise Science 
Defiance College invites applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Exercise Science (ESCI). Responsibilities include a 12-credit per semester teaching load focused upon a variety of courses that may include Introduction to Allied Health, Fitness and Wellness Programming, Pharmacology, and Sport and Fitness Nutrition, along with the supervision of ESCI internships and field experiences. Defiance College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of English. We are looking for a passionate and innovative teacher-scholar who can move easily from first-year writing to upper-level literature courses. Our new colleague will contribute to the creative and intellectual life of the college community. In addition, the person hired for this position will advise the student newspaper, which comes with a three-credit per year course release. The typical teaching load is 12 credits per semester, usually a combination of general education composition courses and literature offerings. The position duties also include academic advising; assisting with program leadership and curriculum development; committee work; and service to the college.

TEACHER EDUCATION CLINICAL SUPERVISORS
The Teacher Education program is seeking part-time clinical supervisors for teacher education students participating in 5-week practicum experiences and in 15-week student teaching experiences for the fall and spring semesters. Our licensure areas include early and middle childhood education, adolescent and young adult (core content areas), and intervention specialist mild-to-moderate (K-12). Clinical supervisors are required to make site visits during normal school hours and attend meetings and/or training sessions on campus.

Requirements include a master's degree in education and teaching experience in P-12 schools. A current teaching license within the areas indicated above is preferred. ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS

 

Athletic Director
Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, seeks qualified applicants for the position of Athletic Director.  Reporting to the President, the Athletic Director is responsible for the overall management of a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program designed to foster the growth and development of individual student-athletes competing in the sixteen NCAA sports programs at Defiance College.  The Athletic Director serves as the chief athletic officer and is accountable for the overall operation of the athletic department to include planning, organization, administration, fundraising, and evaluation of all aspects of the College's NCAA Division III athletic program to ensure compliance with conference and NCAA regulations. This position requires significant personnel supervision that includes mentoring and helping coaches recruit successfully.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and/or abilities in the following areas: written and oral communication, leadership and supervision, budgeting, creative approaches and problem solving, recruitment, and NCAA compliance. A Bachelor’ degree in a relevant field is required (Master’s degree preferred), as is prior relevant experience in a collegiate athletic department, preferably in NCAA Division III.

HEAD BASEBALL COACH
Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Head Baseball Coach. Responsibilities will include all duties normally associated with being the head coach of an intercollegiate baseball program including, but not limited to:  recruiting; coaching and managing the team; budget management; organization of training, practices and games; fundraising; equipment control; mentoring assistant coach; and academic monitoring. Additional expectations include game management duties, involvement in both departmental and campus-wide programs, and other duties as assigned. All responsibilities will need to be accomplished in coordination with the athletic administrative team.

Director of the Academic Support Center
Defiance College invites applications for the Director of the Academic Support Center. The Academic Support Center provides support for all students, with an emphasis on STEM-related classes, in particular a focus on entry-level science and math courses. The Center also provides assessment of incoming students' ability in mathematics to ensure appropriate course enrollment and their continued success, support tutoring services, and facilitate homework and study groups for students enrolled in science and mathematics courses. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Success, the director will be responsible for establishing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Academic Support Center.

Specific duties of the director will include, but not be limited to: developing training materials; developing a resource bank of context/concept simulations related to science/math; hiring, training and supervising student tutors and supplemental instruction leaders; acting as a liaison between course instructors and students; preparing utilization and other reports; and helping participants develop study and time management skills. The successful candidate will be expected to be sensitive to academic and cultural diversity.

A master's degree in a STEM, STEM Education, or related field is required. One or more years of higher education teaching experience, familiarity with learning management systems such as Moodle, and experience supervising and managing a tutoring workforce is preferred.

This position is being funded via a grant into 2025. The successful candidate will begin employment as soon as possible; continued employment will be contingent on performance and continued funding. Accessibility Services Coordinator/Counseling Center Staff Clinician
Defiance College is currently seeking an Accessibility Services Coordinator & Counseling Center Staff Clinician. This individual will coordinate all aspects of student accessibility services, ensuring compliance with all federal and state laws to provide access and accommodation for students with disabilities. The individual will also serve as a clinician in the Student Counseling Center.

Accessibility Services responsibilities include: develop and implement policies and programs designed to enhance student accessibility services; perform intake assessments; identify reasonable accommodations; assess and facilitate the implementation of accommodations; and educational outreach. Clinician responsibilities include: provide individual and group counseling; assist with crisis response (which may require evening and weekend response); conduct mental health and wellness outreach programs; and provide training and consultation on college student mental health.

The successful candidate for this full-time 12-month position must possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills and be familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. A Master’s degree in Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation, Special Education, College Student Personnel, or another related field is required. Maintenance Technician 
Defiance College seeks an individual to assist in the maintenance and repair of campus facilities and equipment, with primary emphasis on carpentry and painting. Applicants should also have some experience and knowledge of plumbing, electrical, renovations and grounds keeping and will also assist with maintenance troubleshooting and repair of various types of equipment. Must be proficient in the operation of many types of equipment, possess a valid, and hold an unrestricted driver’s license. Assistant Football Coach
Defiance College seeks an Assistant Football Coach to assist primarily on the defensive side. The individual will assist the head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and development and will support the planning and directing of all functions of the football program. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to strength & conditioning, overall student-athlete instruction, coaching, recruiting and on-campus visit planning, game and practice planning, budget management, fundraising and student-athlete performance. Head Men’s & Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field Coach
Defiance College seeks an individual to serve as head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs. The individual will be responsible for providing organization and leadership for all phases of the programs under the direction of the Athletic Director. Responsibilities include recruiting, meet scheduling and preparation, practice organization, fundraising, budget preparation and management, equipment control, mentoring of student-athletes and assistant coaches, developing an annual service/engagement project for student-athletes, and other duties normally associated with being the head coach of an intercollegiate program. Additional expectations of this position may include some departmental and campus committee work/involvement.

Candidates must be able to develop and motivate Division III student-athletes; have a strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes; knowledge of and commitment to all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations; good communication skills; and strong leadership skills. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist the Head Athletic Trainer in athletic health care management and medical coverage for NCAA sponsored intercollegiate athletic teams and events at Defiance College. The individual will be assigned specific coverage for two intercollegiate teams but will cover other sports and events as needed.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: coverage of practices, games, and events and traveling with teams to provide coverage at off-campus contests; assisting in daily ATR operations, including injury evaluation, emergency treatment, and rehabilitation; recordkeeping and documentation; work with local medical providers and team physicians to coordinate referrals for injuries; and providing counseling and education to student athletes.

Qualified applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (master’s preferred), have current NATA BOC certification, be licensed by the State of Ohio through the Ohio OT/PT/AT, and have previous athletic training experience, preferably in a higher education environment.

ASSISTANT MEN’S SOCCER COACH
Defiance College, an NCAA D-III institution and member of the HCAC, seeks an Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach. Under the direction of the Head Coach, responsibilities will include coaching, recruiting, fund raising, strength & conditioning, developing annual service/engagement projects for student-athletes, practice planning and preparation, scheduling, assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation, academic monitoring, and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will also be responsible for supporting the mission of Defiance College, as well as adherence to institutional, Heartland Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures. A bachelor’s degree and a valid driver’s license are required; a master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who possess USC/USSF coaching licenses and have successful soccer coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level.

Administrative Assistant, Academic Affairs 
Defiance College seeks a part-time Administrative Assistant for the Office of Academic Affairs to provide secretarial and administrative support for faculty and externally-accredited academic programs.

This 9-month position (mid-August through mid-May) will require approximately 20 hours of work per week. Responsibilities include preparing and managing correspondence and reports, implementing and maintaining office systems and databases, organizing and maintaining records for accreditation, taking meeting minutes, providing organizational and logistical support for events and activities, and other support duties as assigned. The individual must be able to maintain thorough and accurate records; work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals; and possess excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in MSOffice and the ability to prioritize tasks and multitask critical to the position. High school diploma required; Associate degree and office experience are preferred.

Head Cheer and Dance Coach 
Defiance College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, invites applications for the position of Head Cheer and Dance Coach. Responsibilities will include all duties normally associated with being the head coach of an intercollegiate cheer and dance program including, but not limited to, recruiting, coaching, budget management, organization of training, practices and competitions, academic monitoring and other duties as assigned.

Candidates must demonstrate significant knowledge of cheer and dance, possess stunting certifications, proven success in coaching cheer and dance at the collegiate or high school level, the ability to recruit, develop and motivate Division III student-athletes, a strong commitment to the academic success of student-athletes, knowledge of and commitment to all NCAA, HCAC and institutional rules and regulations, good communication skills, and strong leadership.

The individual must be able to use technology efficiently, be proficient in MSOffice, and maintain thorough and accurate records. Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills along with the ability to interact and work cooperatively with a diverse group of individuals are essential.  A high school diploma is required; bachelor’s degree preferred and office administrative experience is desirable.
